I need this, being an office holder and all.  Tongue

I'll post regular updates here that relate to official business in the assembly, and by next month hopefully the Senate. If anyone has any concerns, wishes for policy, questions, etc they can bring them to this thread. (With exceptions. Anything related to bills that the Assembly is debating on should go into the debate thread, and anything relating to my newspaper should go in that thread.)

So the first update is about all that I've done so far: two failed Constitutional amendments and a bill that specifically clarifies how to count election votes. Of course, I also have been very active voting and participating in debate. You can see what the Assembly is debating on here.

I went on a posting spree today. I decided that since the only people who really check the regional government boards are regional government officials and sometimes fhtagn or Poirot, I would post my posts here so more people can see them. You can also click the posts to find the entire debate thread and read the whole thing. While you're there you may as well let your voice be heard and participate in Assembly debate - I'm a big fan of citizens who are active.

On the Lincoln Government Transparency Act:
I suppose that's the best we can do. We're never going to successfully regulate Discord use when it is so convenient, so being transparent about what exactly goes on is the best solution.

On the Universal Basic Income Act:
I still don't think that people making $80,000 a year need any UBI. L10.3.3 guarantees living income so I fail to see the need for this bill outside of unemployment, but that disincentivizes working.

We could add a provision to ensure that those people are looking for work (perhaps proof of three job interviews in the last month or a similar quota) with exceptions for people with disabilities of course.

I do think this is an admirable goal, and it has all my support. However, I want to be one hundred percent sure that a 20% automization tax covers all the UBI that we are giving out. Our balanced budget amendment is still there. Edit: Just to be clear I'm asking for a GM analysis.

On the Procedure for Tied Votes Act:
I don't think this is a good idea for a few reasons. Referendums, which are generally serious changes to the status quo, shouldn't even have simple majority for its passage if we're being honest, because that really makes it too easy. In real life they also usually have a higher threshold. Additionally, this is quite obviously a response to the Constitutional Amendment I made that didn't pass. I wanted it to pass, and it would have passed if this was the rule, but things don't really work that way. How about tied referendums just don't pass?

On the Prison Reform Act, which I sponsored for the Lincoln Assembly:
This is the bill I introduced and it was written by Mr. Reactionary for the Southern region and only lightly edited by me to make it compatible with Lincoln so I don't know why he's not listed as the or even an author.

Anyway, this bill does what I wanted to do in this office when I was elected, abolishing private prisons. It also decreases prison sentences in some ways, which was another thing I wanted. Basically, the reason behind this is generally that private prisons are bad places for prisoners. They are motivated by profit, which incentives them to use involuntary servitude (sad that my Constitutional Amendment failed), fill the prisons with more inmates even for really inconsequential and nonviolent offenses, and cut corners when it comes to sanitation and the like (this one is a bigger problem in private immigration detention centers though). The cost of this bill is also relatively cheap, and we'll save money too by not paying for private prisons, which are again motivated by profit, so who knows if we'll even lose money. (Let's ask the GM.)

The rest of the bill is all about treating prisoners with respect and I think we can all get behind that. The part about prison rape especially has my support, we need to reduce that and I think everyone can agree there.

The second to last section is the only one I don't agree with, I kept it in because I am interested in hearing the reasoning behind it and perhaps having a bit of actual debate in the Assembly. I must admit that I am personally uncomfortable with reporting the immigration status of detainees to the Atlasian Department of Justice. But it looks like our immigration policy with the Out of the Shadows Act is pretty liberal, so I'm not worried about deportations as much as I would be. I am still mildly concerned though, but also still interested in hearing the supporting argument.

The Assembly is currently engaged in a minor crisis with the Governor being locked out of office. As I wait for Truman to make an amendment to a bill, I'd like to announce a few things I've done in office since the last update.

On the Prison Reform Act:

The amendment is friendly. I especially like the new part 15.

On the LincolnRail Expansion Act:
That's a total of about $3 billion. Maybe we should fund this somehow? I think we could reduce funding for other modes of transportation slightly with this.

On the School Meal Nutrition Act:
I like this bill and what it tries to do but is mandating whole milk the best option here? It's basically the other end of the extreme. Perhaps allowing choice of milk by the school/student is better. Section 8 also sounds a little weak. Simply "recommending" something is useless; instead, we should set an exact cap on the amount of added sugar. Which by reading the next part I see you did, making Section 8 even more unnecessary. Those are the easiest and least controversial fixes. There are also other issues like Section 13, which I think doesn't account for scenarios in which the school may still be at fault even if they supplied a non-allergy option.

The rest is all good.
(It was amended to fix some of these problems afterwards.)
Nay, I really don't think forcing people to eat more fat is all that helpful, even if the rest are genuinely great things. That one part is bad.

(It passed 2-1 anyway.)

On the Lincoln Government Transparency Act:

(It passed 3-0.)

Will be using this quite a bit more I hope, but I have two announcements:

1. LOA until Monday. I'm on vacation and will be too busy doing rides, watching shows, shopping, etc. to Atlasia. (This at least is better than ghosting, and I know it's not the best look. The vacation's really fun though.)

2. I'm 99.9% sure asking people to edit their votes after they vote is not legal at all, so Louisville thunder doing it in the assembly race to DTC is sort of a big deal. I'm not sure why no one else mentioned it on atlas yet but here we go.

Anyway after Monday I'll use this a bunch more.

#2 is legal as long as it’s done within the 20 minute edit window and no misinformation or threats/intimidation are involved.

To be clear, it was a simple request that I change my vote to him. No intimidation, threats, or misinformation, and it was within the edit window.
