As expected, wait for 3-4 years down the road when most Americans will see tax increases. They'll LOVE it then, believe me!

You think it's time to panic for just about everything.

Much different for Manchin or Heitkamp to vote against a bill thats -20 in approval than it is to vote against a bill +5 in approval.

Most gains from the bill still go to the wealthy but since no one cares about the massive deficit increase and workers still get a smaller share of the scraps I suppose that makes it popular.

You mean the tax cut which goes into effect this year wasnt reflected in your taxes for last year? Weird.

if you look at the details most of the increase is because of republicans liking it more. like a lot of things

I’ve been talking to some accountants, and they say the IRS this year is not ready, and that there will be a lot of problems when everyone has filed. The lack of an IRS Commissioner with no one in the line of succession to serve as Acting Commissioner has resulted in there being no centralized authority, and that will cause a lot of problems for many people.

Who would have thought that passing something wanted by your base would actually lead to them boosting your numbers? Dems (when they had the supermajority Senate and majority House during the early Obama Presidency) should have used their opportunity to bring about single-payer and card-check, but bipartisanship was more important, for some reason.

I think where people will start to see the different is in lower federal tax withholding rates which only was put in place in Feb 2018.  Of course these lower withholding rates could be deceptive since real taxes taxpayers pay in April 2019 might be higher or lower than these new withholding rates would imply.  Still for the marginal voter the news will get better throughout 2018 especially given still robust wage and employment growth which Trump can claim the tax cut is responsible for (weather it really is is beside the point).  So I think the tax law will get more popular over time and eventually overtake the Bush II 2001 tax cut since after the 2001 tax cut the economy was clearly on the downswing and the marginal voter who might be experiencing harder economic times will find it hard to give credit to the 2001 tax cut for helping them even though mathematically it clearly did.

Last night YouTube has a (long, unskippable) ad telling me how awesome I was supposed to think the tax cut is.

When we see grandiose indulgence -- economic elites building palaces and castles -- while the rest of us are broke, we will not like that.

Really? That's odd. All my co-workers - much as they hate him - had the intensity granted a reprieve by the nice double digit percent increase in take home pay after the new year. Was like getting a giant raise in Q4 AND Q1!

They should have only noticed a difference only AFTER Feb 1 when the new withholding schedules came out.
