I like the answer of Pericles about the country going in the right or wrong direction.

We can and should do much better than we're doing right now. We have a political system that is stagnant

Atlasia is in bad shape and something must be done to try to improve the situation. People defending the staus quo are defending the sad state of the country and not offering any hope.

Funny how some claim to understand the desire for change in Atlasia, yet rapidly dismiss potential reforms for the game (even small ones) with arguments that are rather questionable or even a bit lousy.

The most glaring example of this would be the President repeating the ludicrous claim that a a parliamentary system would "long-term" take power away from the regions, and I am rather interested in being informed as to why exactly parliamentarism or the Montfort Plan would do that.

I find it most disingenuous that the regions are used an excuse (and an obvious one at that) to oppose parliamentarism, when far more honest (and precise) arguments could be used.

As is typical in both Atlasia and real life, if you want actual change, you must vote out the current administration. A vote for Fthagn has always been a vote for the Status Quo.

As is typical in both Atlasia and real life, people who can't comprehend complex ideas simply blame the current President for long-lasting problems and conflate empty "status quo is bad" rhetoric for change.

Part of Spiral's answer on what a President can do to increase activity:

This is so true. Communication is important. The President is the leader of the country and has a role in getting people informed and involved.

I haven't found a President's office on the elections board where most people will look. There is one in the government board but it's for official business and not an easy link with the public. We have had Presidents who don't take a high visible role in public. I mean when governing and not being super active when it's time to campaign for votes or invade other politcal parties thread or candidates threads to bash and insult them.

We don't have Presidents who use an office on the elections board to have a link with the citizens, keep them informed on what they are working on, speak on the bills when they are signed, maybe someone from the public will ask a question, you know just keep everyone informed and involved, show there is some life in the country.

While I didn't think he was doing too great at the beginning of the debate, wxtransit has become a lot more assertive as of late. Perhaps this is the kind of leadership Atlasia is ready for?

Maybe next time he can use that assertiveness to advance a position where he isn't clearly in the wrong.

And, now we're carrying this over to here. This is getting petty, please stop. The facts are, I am the moderator and I can call time. Fhtagn posted late. If either of you want to use a different system, be my guest and make your own debate. What I am doing is preventing what became of Weatherboy's debate (no offence intended), which was a long, drawn-out series of tit-for-tat rebuttals. I even stated this in my post to open the rebuttal section:
I will close off the period immediately at midnight tomorrow, even if you're in the middle of preparing your response, so make sure to get all your points in before midnight!

And this which has been conveniently glossed over by you both:
Under 5 hours left to rebut! I will not accept rebuttals past 11:59 PM CST.

11:59 PM Central Standard Time =/= 12:04 AM Central Standard Time.

Guys, please stop. This is not worth fighting for at this point.

But what if I'm petty and want to fight you anyway? Who's gonna stop me??? Bring it on bud.

Yes, it's a silly non-issue and not worth haggling over endlessly. My point that I want to leave with is that I have used that phrase and seen it used more than enough times in my time in Atlasia to know that it is generally applied to be 24 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds and not any shorter period of time (but perhaps a longer one depending on the circumstances).

Given that this really is pretty minor, I would suggest you think of this post as a bit of constructive criticism to avoid similar confusion in the future. Even though you did mention midnight later on, it's very easy for someone to skip over that after seeing the phrase "24 hours" come before it.

This is a really good idea, and something I agree is very important. I tried to do this with my Senate office, so I could keep voters informed regularly about what I'm doing and why I'm doing it and seek out their feedback, and to update them with important developments. Sadly it didn't get as much interest as I hoped but the President is a lot more high-profile than a new Senator so I think it'll be different. I will have an office in both boards and try to update it as much as possible with important developments so voters are informed. I did this in the Senate and in this campaign where I've made sure to inform Atlasians where I stand on the issues and lay out both a big-picture vision and give it substance. The idea of a President's office in this board is one I support and want to do if elected.
