That is, assuming that Trump gets a primary challenger, like Kasich or Amash or Cuban, someone who would actually be able to at least get on the primary ballot in most states, yet who Trump will comfortably lead in the polls, then how much will Trump actually bother to campaign?

I realize that he’s already doing campaign events, but those are more geared towards the general election.  Will Trump bother to do campaign events that are clearly primary campaign driven, like doing a tour of Iowa in the weeks leading up to the caucuses, or ditto for New Hampshire before the NH primary, or in Super Tuesday states that are non-competitive in the general election, like California?  Will he have a victory party in Iowa on caucus night, and similarly for each subsequent contest?

On the one hand if, as expected, Trump has a big lead over whoever’s running against him, and ends up winning the primaries easily, then he’s punching down to even do anything to acknowledge his challenger’s existence, or acknowledge the fact that he’s being challenged.  “I didn’t even have to leave the White House, and I still won Iowa easily.”  He might just declare victory and start campaigning in GE states.

OTOH, Trump punches down all the time, and if his challenger(s) is taunting him, then he might find it irresistible to fight back.  Plus, since the primaries will be the main focus of national media attention at the time, he might get covered more if he’s campaigning in primary states.

He loves the proverbial blow jobs he gets from his brainless idiots.

A hilarious amount.  He has virtually no chance of being unseated, but he will hit whomever challenges him with everything he's got, LOL.

Probably similar to George HW Bush in ‘92 at most.

I was alive in '92, but was a kid, and not paying attention to politics enough to be aware of Bush's primary campaign activities.  So I'm curious, how much did he campaign in the primaries?  Did he actually give a victory speech in New Hampshire, for example?  Or for other contests as well?

Yes, he loves his rallies and will be holding them daily from the Summer of 2019 on, regardless of a serious primary opponent. He will love making fun of the Democratic candidates and his primary opponents, serious or not.

Yes, he loves his rallies and will be holding them daily from the Summer of 2015 on, regardless of a serious primary opponent.

Right, but he could do those early campaign rallies in the general election swing states rather than worry about what's happening in the primary states.  My instinct is that even if he's ahead of his primary opponent(s) by 60 points in the polls he'll still campaign in the early primary states, just because that's where the national media will be most focused, and he can't help himself, but I can see the argument for just declaring victory early and skipping ahead to GE campaigning.

Also, I assume you mean Summer of 2019 rather than 2015?  Tongue

I imagine not as much as the first time, though he does love his big rallies.

Trump is so full of himself that he might even want to debate whoever challenges, in a way he'll make the primary more competitive than it should be by giving his opponent(s) so much attention.

Brainfart. Yes.

And honestly, I think he will campaign in primary states, swing states and fun southern states for him like Alabama. He will do it all.

Depends on who is running his campaign and how much he listens to that person.

Trump was still campaigning in states where he was unopposed in May/June.
