FF. He was Germany's best Chancellor after Kohl and Adenauer IMO.

Terrible. The SPD truly became worthless when Brandt stepped down and he took over.

Schmidt and Brandt were both SPD chancellors in the 70s, but they were very different people. Brandt was more of an idealistic reformer who apppealed especially to younger voters. The motto of his government was: "We want to take a chance on more democracy."

Schmidt, on the other hand, was mostly an unemotional pragmatist. He uttered his most famous words probably during an interview, in which he was asked: "Where's your great vision?" Schmidt's answer was: "If you have a vision, you should see a doctor." Looking back, Schmidt said it was "an impudent response to a stupid question", but it actually sums up his political style quite well.

Massive FF.

A pragmatist with a execellent political philosophy. Did also very well during the various crises with terrorism during his term. However, he seemed always a little cold personally. He was certainly a better chancellor than Brandt.
