Was Trump a factor in Murphy winning in NJ?

No, Phil Murphy would have won under a Clinton presidency too.

Phil Murphy would have won regardless.

More like a combination of Christie's unpopularity and NJ's overall DEM lean.

He was obviously a factor and hurt the GOP, but I'm really not in any way buying that Gillespie or Guadagno would have won had Clinton been president. To me, this sounds like wishful thinking from Republicans who still think it's 2001.

This, but judging from his underwhelming margin even with Trump, it may have been somewhat competitive.

If it was a referendum on Christie then Murphy would've won by 50 points.

It was a referendum on both Trump and Christie.

How is that possible when Guadagno's vote total was far above both of their approval ratings?

It may have been a factor, but that by definition means it was not a "referendum."
