I hate that people use this example, because it is possible for the play Abe Lincoln was killed at to be good despite him being killed at it (think of it this way, if your Father had a heart attack while watching Citizen Kane, that doesn't make Citizen Kane any worse, nor is the play Abe Lincoln was at when he was killed any worse because he was killed while viewing it), while it is not possible for Stalin to be a good person despite the political repressions.

Sure, but it is a good example. Sure, Stalin was efficient, but he was ruthlessly so. You can't just gloss over that.

As for the play itself, for Mrs. Lincoln it was a devastating and horrifying experience. I seriously doubt in anyone's diary in her position they would go on and on about their husband's death and then say, "but the play itself was pretty good."
