Southwest sucks because they may be cheap, but they have no-frills.  The meals (if one can classify peanuts as such) are terrible, the seats uncomfortable, and the flights long.  I flew once to Las Vegas from BWI (Baltimore) on Southwest, and we stopped in Chicago and Omaha before getting there.  On the way back, we had to stop in Austin and Houston.  Besides, Southwest is one of those airlines that is pretty much helping to destroy the older carriers like United and Northwest.  So that makes me hate them even more.

Southwest pretty much has to do that because the same airplane (737) is used for every flight. It saves an enormous amount of money, and allows people to fly who otherwise could not afford to.

I don't care if it's cheaper.  What I care about is the service onboard, which is virtually non-existent, the lack of direct flights to destinations, and the atmosphere, which is rather cramped at Southwest.  United also beats Southwest on route network, since it flies to South America, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and is the only US airline to serve Australia.  Southwest also doesn't belong to any airline alliance, so it's miles are worthless outside the airline.  My dad has close to a million miles on United, and because United is a Star Alliance member we can fly virtually anywhere in the world.

Same with me.  Southwest is going to base a lot of flights out of Pittsburgh, now that we're not a USAir hub anymore.  My dad really likes them because they're cheap, but I care more about the service.  What's next, no restrooms?
