Good. It's a pity it took so long, and I'd hoped they'd be broader, but better this than nothing.

(I can't help but wonder if in a few months we won't see the House GOP trying to bring these articles of impeachment to the floor, because they're so narrow and limited compared to all the other charges he'll be being impeached for by then.)

This should've been done on January 20th, but it's a start.

I've already personally accepted he will serve all four years. Any day less than that will just be a bonus.

Meh, since articles of impeachment are introduced against pretty much any president it's not really  news, I'm afraid.

Huh?  There were never any official impeachment resolutions against Obama that I'm aware of.  Much talk about it from the GOP, but nothing ever introduced.  AFAIK, the only formal impeachment resolutions introduced in the House have been against Andrew Johnson, Nixon, and Clinton.  Do any of the history buffs here know of any others?

EDIT: I'm wrong. Smiley  In March 2012, Congressman Walter B. Jones introduced H. Con. Res. 107, calling for Congress to hold the sentiment that certain actions of President Barack Obama be considered as impeachable offenses, including the CIA's drone program in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The resolution died in the House Judiciary Committee.

EDIT 2: And several other Presidents (though a minority).  For a full list, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_investigations_of_United_States_federal_officials

It has been the case with every president since Reagan.

Could be kind of a "Watergate effect", and later on it was boosted by increased partisan polarization.

Still seems too early. I'd rather wait for Mueller to finish (assuming it only takes a couple years at most). Regardless of how things look, you really want to have an ironclad case before pursuing impeachment, especially when the president's party controls Congress. It's not a small thing, and the effect it would have on society is significant. For that reason, the decision should not be made lightly.

Agreed.  Impeachment is an action of enormous significance.  It shouldn't be rushed into -- no matter how much one dislikes the President.

Agreed. IMO, this may actually make things a bit more difficult if/when there is a solid case for it.

Wish they had been this committed with Dubya, but I guess that might have stopped the wars. Can't let that happen!

Doubt it'll go anywhere, but I've been thinking for a while about making a Trump impeachment whip count, so when I get home I'll post that here.

Okay, here's my whip count of Ayes so far. I don't think we're at a clear enough point to differentiate nays from undecideds from "this is stupids" from "too early to tells" yet, so I'm just making a list of those who have made either definitive statements in favor of impeachment, voted in committee, or cosponsored legislation dealing with Trump impeachment, as well as the dates of the action. If anybody knows of one I'm missing, let me know and I'll add it.

I think we should wait until the Mueller investigation is concluded. Impeachment proceedings should only begin if there is clear proof. However, we also need to investigate his conflicts of interests, not just Russia.

If we get the House in 2018, impeachment should be the very first thing we do on January 3, 2019. It doesn't matter that it will fail in the Senate, impeachment is a permanent stain on his presidency that can never ever be washed off. Our only option is to do to POS45 what Newt Gingrich did to Bill Clinton.

Better impeachment than a military coup. The Trump dalliance with Russian political and intelligence figures is sordid enough. If a criminal syndicate is connected...

No matter how 'conservative' people may say they are, few conservatives like crime. "Tough on crime" is a reliable bromide from conservative politicians. (OK, Clinton and Obama weren't exactly 'nice' to crooks, but they would have had less credibility running on any "tough on crime" appeal.

I would let the federal investigative figures do what they can before letting it go to the political process. Prosecutions are done by (one hopes) apolitical attorneys and police. Impeachment is a political process.

The question remains: at what point must Congress impeach the President and members of his cabinet just to maintain credibility?  It is obviously inconvenient and even dangerous to investigate any bad behavior by the current President.
