Anyway, when I said his speech was good it was not because it had any special meaning, but because it was well delivered and struck a right note. The U.S. is viewed much less positive than before for a number of reasons, including Iraq and our pointless jumping in just to please Big Brother. The only actual significance of the visit is a bad one (we accepted a terrible gas deal). As far as wider geopolitics is concerned, it was just a visit, so talking about a "great day" is beyond silly.

Seriously, it was well-delivered. It wasn't Twitter-spamming Trump, it was quite presidential post-election Trump.

Its too late Kal, you have just been forced to surrender your card carrying membership in good standing with the forum left. Tongue

I have no good standing left since becoming a mod anyway.

Ah the perils of going from your garden variety anarchic, bomb thrower (reference to a picture I think you may have posted like circa 2011 or something), to a member of the Imperial Guard. Now you get to play catch with the grenades instead of being the one tossing them.

As a likely member of the alleged "forum left" I don't have any problems with Kalweijt's posts in this thread. Donald Trump has occassionally delivered good speeches before... his victory speech last November and the one right after Steve Scalise was shot come to mind. Doesn't change the fact that Trump is a disgusting POS overall. That's the way I interpreted Kal's comment too.

(Haven't seen Trump's Warsaw speech myself and don't really care to, mainly for the aforementioned reason that an occassional good speech from him doesn't make up for all the bullsh**t he's doing.)

Peter Beinart is not a fan of Trump's Warsaw speech:

While I have not yet had the chance to watch this speech by Trump, I'll observe in advance that he has succeeded in lowering standards to the point where successfully standing up and emitting a mediocre melange of word-salad that doesn't include conspiracy theories, aspirations to war crimes, or rants about his enemies is broadly regarded as him exceeding expectations.

Probably the best speech he's given. I love how he really ripped apart globalism. Globalism is the biggest threat the west faces right now. While we can have allies and strengthen relationships with them, it's also important for individual countries to focus on individual ideals.

You have no idea how refreshing it is to finally hear an American President preach western values after eight years of Obama basically lambasting America everywhere he went around the world.

So refreshing to hear a western leader be unapologetic about just how awesome our cultural realm is. We are the best, by far. Which is why everyone wants to come here. And we need to keep it that way by stating that our core values are non-negotiable.
