The thing about preemption laws is that they might be good under very specific circumstances. Currently, the housing shortage in most cities is mostly due to restrictive zoning ordinances and the local power of NIMBYs. States would be better positioned to pass reforms that expand housing stock, since they would ostensibly also represent the wishes of in-staters who want to move into cities but can't due to high housing costs.

But of course, states instead squander their preemption laws on bathroom bills and minimum wage decreases.

Missouri Republicans are beyond deplorable.
Agreed. Nixon, for all of his faults on certain things, was a lot better Governor than this fool occupying it now. At least his vetoes were occasionally sustained (esp. on "right-to-work"/union issues), but more often overridden b/c of the 2/3rds+ supermajority held by the GOP in the Missouri House and Senate.
