They are morally correct on protecting our rights, but have no workable solutions. They are nore or less like the ACLU.

Yeah, pretty much.

Any ideology that bases itself on the notions that Americans will drastically alter their views on any issue (economics, domestic/foreign policy) is unworkable and impractical. Socialism and communism fall under this, though it's much more easy and practical to implement socialist policies into the current American economy than it would be to move towards laissez faire policies.
