Not sure that this is exactly the right place for this thread, but there didn't seem to be one that fit exactly. In any case, with Joaquín Castro as a low-profile Congressman and Julian Castro out of a job since Trump was inaugurated, I'm wondering what people think is the political future of these two brothers from Texas? There has been a lot of buzz about them in the past, which was amplified when Clinton vetted Julian for VP, but there's nothing really keeping them in the limelight right now, especially since neither seem to be running for anything in 2018 (other than reelection to Congress for Joaquín).

I expect Joaquin will wait until the winds are favorable to run for Senate, while it seems fairly likely Julian will run for POTUS. That may just be a cover to wind up in the Veep slot, though. They're both fairly young, they have time.

Julian will be a partner at a S&C level Biglaw firm, and Joaquin will sit in his current position until winds look right for a Dem to run for Sen in TX.

Julian will finally enter into national elected politics as the Congressional Representative for whatever the new TX-35 will be (since it will be anchored by San Antonio) and since Doggett will probably choose to run in whatever new Austin Dem Pack is created as a result of the map changes. There is a scenario where the new 35th becomes a swing/competitive seat, a situation that only helps his cause since it would build a reputation of success. That won't stop him from having eyes for the Presidency, but now he be able to amass elected experience.

I could see Joaquin becoming a Senator as soon as 2024 if Texas truly does become a swing state over the next few years. Barring that, he'll probably have his House seat for as long as he wants it.

Julian will probably run for President next time around in an audition for VP. If that doesn't work, maybe he can try for Governor in 2022?

Julian will retire from politics to become a used car salesman
Joaquin will remain in the house until he loses a primary to Greg Popovich after he retires from coaching the spurs

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/08/24/castro-julian-joaquin-texas-241946?lo=ap_c1

Politico released this story saying that there's a serious effort to get  Joaquin to run for Governor in 2018, and Joaquin is not ruling out a run. Julian seems like he's running for president in 2020.

They don't have a future outside of their positions they already hold or held.
