Not too surprising news - Illinois and the Midwest in general have not been attracting a great many people these days. But this is still interesting and can have implications down the line - maybe Illinois becomes competitive in the future because of this! Furthermore, the slowdown of urban growth will likely have interesting implications in its own right.

People have always thought Illinois could have its status as a blue state lessen, and this could be why (although it would take many, many more years.

More likely that Georgia becomes competitive in the future because of this... Smiley

Beyond Rahm Emmanuel's miserable leadership and black flight, Toronto has eaten Chicago's lunch.

I really doubt it,  the only parts of the state growing are the Chicago suburbs and a few smaller cities like Champaign and Peoria.   Those are the exact areas trending Dem.

Even if Chicago loses people,  the southern downstate area is losing even more.   There isn't anything favorable happening in Illinois for Republicans as of now.

Chicagoland and Chicago especially is turning into two worlds, the uber, uber rich and the poor.  The middle class is getting squeezed by a poor economy, crime, and taxes.

Chi-town is continuing to see a major decline among Blacks while other racial/ethnic groups have grown.
