This is the thread in which you talk about websites getting blocked when you were using the internet.

One time I used a wifi connection at a recreation center and it blocked Deviantart. Is Deviantart really bad enough?

Another time I was using the internet during my break at work and tried to visit Failblog.org, but it was blocked under the category "Questionable". Goddamned fascists.

It's probably considered distracting, not to mention don't some artists upload hentai?

The wifi at the place I'm temporarily staying at blocks C-Span - C-Span! - or rather, it issues a security warning about the site and when I try to proceed anyway, I get nothing but text of the homepage.

Same problem with vid.me.

When I visited China a few years ago, there was an awfully strange list of sites that the Chinese government was blocking.  Don't remember what all of them were, but one that seemed odd was IMDb.  Maybe they were afraid of people organizing protests on the IMDb messageboards.  Tongue

China's not blocking us though.  v0031's presence assures us of that.  Go China!

Yeah, IIRC I accessed the Atlas forum while I was there and it wasn't blocked.

However, just because someone from China is accessing the site doesn't mean that the Chinese government isn't blocking it.  Plenty of people there use VPNs or other technology to get around the government firewall.

The Chinese government throttles and occasionally censors consumption of foreign media and other cultural imports, so it was presumably done to preserve that system.

My old High School blocked both the local council webpage and its own website for some reason (the blocking software didn't give one) which I always thought was quite amusing - the temporary blocks on the BBC website for "weapons use" (Huh) was a lot more annoying, especially since they also blocked the teachers access as well and it took a lot of moaning before the thing was whitelisted since it wasn't controlled by the school but by the Education Department of the Council.

The European Parliament didn't seem to block much if any sites: at least everything I tried was OK.  Made the quiet days at work during Strasbourg weeks a lot less boring since I could just jump on AAD or on the Wrestling Observer site or something and read random interesting things...  They did monitor your use but the attitude seems to have been that if you do your job well then whatever else you do isn't our business, which I think is the correct approach to that sort of thing.  The uni also didn't block anything - that's different though since its not their job to force you to study...

My work computer blocks the most random sites.  I can go on Facebook but not the website for the Iowa Events Center (arena/civic center-type complex in Des Moines).

Afaik there are no blocked sites on my college wifi connection, there were a few when I was studying at the Catholic University (mostly LGBT news and radical left sites)
