QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q. What even is this?A. In a public referendum in February, the people of Fremont voted to replace the old, decrepit regional government of the First Constitution with a new
parliamentary democracy, becoming the first region in history to do so. The result of this referendum was to replace the governor and legislative assembly with an elected Parliament composed of a House of Commons and a directly-elected Prime Minister. The first elections under this new Constitution were held four months ago and resulted in the election of
HARRY S TRUMAN as Prime Minister; the current House of Commons was elected in April.
Q. What offices are up for election?A. As stated above, voters will elect a Prime Minister and the members of the new House of Commons in this election. As the names suggest, the
PRIME MINISTER is the leader of the ministry, while the
HOUSE OF COMMONS forms the body of Parliament.
Q. How do I run for office?A. Easy - just announce your candidacy
here by Wednesday, June 21 and your name will be included on the ballot.
Q. Should I run for office?A. Yes, you should. Even if you're not quite sure how this whole thing works, there are plenty of seasoned hands who will be more than happy to help you. A healthy democracy thrives on citizen participation, so even if you're still getting the hang of things, becoming involved is always preferable to sitting on the sidelines.
Q. Is there anything else I should do?Join a regional party! As explained in the linked thread, regional parties are "uniquely Fremontian political groups organized to... draw attention to issues specific to our region and to celebrate Fremont's unique culture and history." There are currently four regional parties established in the Commonwealth of Fremont: the
Democratic Alliance, the
Liberal Democracy Party, the
Free Soil Party, and the
Ecosocialist Party (representing respectively the center, center-left, center-right, and left).
