Why Huck over McCain in 2008(McCain seems more moderate), Buchanan over Bush in 1992(Pat is a fringe crazy right winger ), and rick over mitt(Rick was to the right of Mitt on nearly every issue)

L. D. Smith is a staunch populist and nationalist. It doesn't really make any sense for him not to vote for the most populist/nationalist candidates.

Huckabee wasn't really all that much more conservative than McCain, more liberal than 2008!Romney for sure. And regardless, he seemed more genuine than either. And as for McCain, he just doesn't seem all that smart.

Buchanan definitely sucks, but Bush Sr was an oil-baron, Moderate Hero who led the country to economic ruin. And he's a better tactical horse for a landslide in '94 going the other way.

And as for Rick, that's more a Harry Reid-esque statement to stop Mitt from becoming The Face rather than an actual preference.  And the adulterer is NOT a good alternative. That leaves Frothy by default.

At least Santorum supports raising the minimum wage (he did in '16, anyways).

Church '76
RFK '68
Obama '08
Bradley '00
McGovern '72
Obama '12
Dole '96
Dole '88

Dean '04
Brown '92
Hart '84
Clinton '16

Anderson '80

Undecided between Udall and Church '76 (both fantastic), and Pataki and Clinton '16. 1980, 2004, and 2016 are all really bleak, in general.

I would also have supported Dukakis in 1988 over Poppy Bush, but Poppy and Dole in 1992 and 1996 over Billy, because of the latters personal shortcomings Wink

I have immense respect for Bob Dole, and he was generally one of the best Republicans during that era. So while I would've supported Dukakis over HW, I probably would've supported Dole if he had been the nominee (all of this being hypothetical, as I would not have been born for another 14 years)
