This is not the worst thing ever. I endorse this action to remove Kim Jong-Un. Removing North Korea's nuclear capability and destabilizing a violent regime - and even overturning it - may lead to positive consequences. At the very least the region is no longer under threat from a hostile insane power.

Trumpy's foreign policy has been unusually neoconservative lately, which is making me happy.

EDIT: Not that it makes me inclined to vote for his re-election. Just that I'm glad I can support him on some endeavors.

The thing is, any action needs some sort of consensus with China. Given that the PRC is always at loggerheads with the DPRK there are probably some ways you can come to a few points of agreement. But without it, it could descend into an alarming proxy conflict with the potential to destabilise China's Rust Belt and ROK (which would put Seoul at great risk), And an unseemly demise of the DPRK regime, if it splits into Kim-loyal, PRC friendly and USA friendly factions; would cause great chaos in regards to mass refugee crises, organised crime and a vast flow of illegal armaments and nuclear materials in all directions.

No wonder Trump wants to bloat the military budget so bigly. He seems to want to play at war, whacking countries here and there at his slightest whim.

Creepy.

Another point, if you're going to hit NK, POTUS would order more than just one strike group into the area and a ton of destroyer escorts and subs (subs would not be in the news like SURFOR units would).

This is important. If we were going to start a fight, we'd have a rock in our hand first.

Unless Trump gets a wink and a nod from President Xi, he's not doing anything dramatic.

Ugh. I'm not really afraid for WW3 (China isn't going to risk it all for NK), but the people in Seoul will not like this. I like the idea of humanitarian interventionism but this is going to be a total disaster. I don't think Trump actually is stupid enough to do this though.

It'll all be over soon.

Jeb! will be airdropped into Pyongyang armed with only a revolver and an American flag and he shall be victorious over the North Korean vermin.

In the end nothing is going to happen since none of NoKo's neighbors actually want to see the regime implode.

The ruling class in South Korea wants unification. Given North Korea's recent behavior and the domestic problems Chongryon causes now and then, I think Japan now prefers unification to the status quo, too. Even China would rather see unification than a massive refugee crisis. Of course, nobody wants an implosion, but I think everyone but China would be happy with a controlled demolition.

The threat here (if the US should "strike") is that North Korea successfully launches and hits South Korea with a nuke.
I understand we have increased our missile-to-missile defense systems in and around the border areas, but if one gets through and hits the South, it will be a really BIG mess of a war !

South Korea and Japan don't want to be nuked. South Korea doesn't want Seoul flattened. Anyway, I don't see why we should listen to someone who wants WW3 with China more than anything else.
