According to the United States Elections Project, only 59.3% of voters cast a ballot for President in this last election. This ranks, at best, in the lower-middle of the pack in terms of voter turnout (Source). So why isn't voter turnout any higher? According to Pew, the reasons are as follows:

Source

If we assume that the Pew and US Elections Project numbers are correct, that means that of the 230,585,915 people who were "Voting-Eligible" for the election:

•About 24,410,148 people did not vote in the presidential election, at least in part because they "Didn't like any candidates"

•About 23,471,297 "" because "My vote would not matter"

•About 20,654,741 "" because they were "Not registered/eligible"

•About 16,899,333 "" because "Something came up"

•About 15,960,482 "" because they "Ran out of time"

•About 14,082,778 "" because they were "Pretty sure who would win"

•About 13,143,926 "" because they were "Not interested in politics"

•About 9,388,519 "" because they "Tried but [were] unable"

•About 7,510,815 "" because they "Physically could not go"

I know there was a poll that asked people why they chose to stay home on election day but I can't find it and really need it for tonight. Does anyone know where this poll was? I really need it.

Hot date? Wink

Lol, I need it because I'm presenting a two-round election system to my Democratic Precinct Meeting to persuade them to support the resolution at the County Convention and want to show why it is necessary.

Also, to the mods, you're free to move this now that I found the data. I'm sure this belongs somewhere else.

They didn't show up because Hillary wasn't exciting and people didn't want to vote for that terrible of a candidate

I’m just imagining a date in a nice restaurant where one of the partners pulls out a giant poster board with graphs and charts on it and slams it down on the table.

It shows that they are a lot of people in this country that don't vote. Also, they did not like Clinton or Trump. Gary Johnson shouldn't have been the Libertarian nominee. Someone with charisma and an attack dog personality to attack both Clinton and Trump should have ran as the Libertarian choice, and they would have competed.

Advisable if that person is stuck in a bad date but doesn't want to be blunt/rude. And make sure to never pass a complement about the other person !

Have they polled this in previous elections? It's only really interesting if we can say that fewer people thought their vote didn't matter this time around than usual, or if more people didn't vote because they didn't like any of the choices, or similar.

It looks like they polled nonvoters in 2012, but they didn't ask them why they had not voted, just on their preferences on certain topics.
