I doubt this will happen. Trump is so unpopular with the left at this point, working with him (or the GOP) ought to be a death sentence electorally. (Which means that IF Trump can do it and alienate the Dems from a good chunk of their base, it would be a good strategic move for him. I doubt he can pull it off.)

It is the story that Trump/WH tries to push right now. It would be a great move, but I still think it is unlikely (right now).

Why on earth would the opposition in Congress work with a President on a ~40% approval rating?

To do something good for humanity ideally and to advance their worldview in a way they may have few opportunities to do.

And the way for Democrats to do that would be to defeat an unpopular Republican president so a Democratic one could implement their agenda in 2021. Not hand him a political victory.

Yes, passing the Wall Street bill is exactly what we want when we had all the power. You take what you can when you can get it because the Rethuglicans are just going to hold us all hostage again for another decade.

The inevitably rocky path of change, especially in this administration, would be just as great a path to power as stalling and doing nothing. Letting people suffer for political points is absolutely despicable.

If Ryan and the Republicans in Congress really thought they could tie a leash around Trump, they were gravely mistaken. Trump cares about his own popularity, and might think that this is the best way to increase his popularity.

Don't worry, we're not interested in working with him anyway. He's on his own.

He could ask moderate Republicans to support the drug importation bill, sign it, then announce healthcare done, "mission accomplished."
