Ugh, a massive change from the old polls. Hopefully Scott recovers and wins, I really want that seat. I really want the Democrats to pay big for stalling Gorsuch.

But remember, Nelson's lead is as safe as Falcons' lead was, I guess.

Tbf, the last three non-Gravis polls have all shown Nelson up 5 or 6 points. Gravis also had Nelson up 13 in their last poll in November, and they showed Murphy tied with Rubio just before the election, so yeah...

Still, it'd be nice to see other states polled as well, lol.

Agree, other states polled are nice. A good strategy for Trump would I guess roll out names for the Florida-based lower court seats (there's a lot of vacancies IIRC), pick qualified but conservative judges, and then see if Nelson blocks them. If he does, he can be painted as an obstructionist.

Regarding the Gorsuch stuff, I think no one paid attention to this excrpt the hardcore democrats/republicans, so that will not change the dynamic of this race at all.

The chances of Scott defeating Nelson in such a midterm are low.

I really want the Democrats to pay big for stalling Gorsuch.

It's not Gorsuch's rightful seat to have, and neither is this one for Republicans. Smiley It's cute though that Republicans now all of a sudden think obstruction is some big crime, but that's just the tea.

Yes, this is Gorsuch's rightful seat. He is a well-qualified nominee, and this was Scalia's seat, so all this does is take us right back to where we were before he died. We had an election, and the people in a majority of states voted in Trump, and those who considered the Supreme Court a top issue broke heavily for Trump. And just so it's clear, the left started the judicial wars with Bork in 1987, and then escalated it with the nuclear option in 2013.

No, this is Garland's seat and it was stolen. Democrats have every right to block this seat until Trump nominates Garland. Also Bork was such a bad nominee that 6 Republicans voted against him. The real escalation of the judicial wars was the unprecedented obstruction during the Clinton Presidency.

And then the Republicans would vote down Garland on the floor.

Then what happens?

What happened to "We Need Nine?"

I think this is going to end with the filibuster being reduced to 55 or 51 or turned into a talking filibuster only requirement.

There are other locations on this forum to debate the Garland and Gorsuch nominations. Other than speculation of the specific impact of Supreme Court politics on the 2018 FL Senate race, let's stick to polling here. --Mod.

I think this poll is also reflecting the unpopularity of Trump and it is trickling down into this Senate match-up.

If it didn't happen to the GOP after Garland, it's not going to happen for the Democrats after Gorsuch.

There are many differences, but look at the post by Brittain33 above: This is not the place to talk about that.

Anyone who seriously thinks the Republicans with Rick Scott can defeat incumbent Nelson and gain that seat in a Trump midterm is delusional and/or a partisan hack.

lolGravis. I definitely expect it to be closer than this, but I highly doubt Scott will actually be able to defeat an incumbent, especially one like Nelson. My guess right now is that Scott gets roughly 46-47% of the vote.
