The Democrats' argument here is so bad, so absolutely horrible, that it really shouldn't require explanation. But, just in case: the problem with dangerous sex offenders is that many have gotten away with their most serious crimes-- look at the freak in Idaho recently, who probably had killed other kids before his latest crimes.

So, while its possible someone with a relatively minor conviction could go to jail for 5 years, the penalty is only incurred if they fail to register. "I forgot" just isn't a good excuse for the parents with dead children.

Going to jail for a longer time for not registering than for the actual offense seems to be slightly bizarre.

Granted, doing anything less than putting computer chips in sex offenders will probably not prevent sex offenders from constantly evading the registries

My point was, intolerant, that the reason for the kidnappings and rapes is that the normal relationship is banned.  However I'm sure the number of consensual sexual encounters between youths and older people is far more common than anything forced, even in our repressive society.
