Will it happen? Or, would he run for some other office (such as U.S. Senate or Governor)?

Hell I'm hoping he's gone as Chair by then.

If he's seen as a good chair, he'll probably want to stick around for another few years as chair. If he's seen as a bad chair, nobody will want him to be President.

Maybe if 63 House seats are lost under his watch he can be chosen as a VP nominee 6 years later.

I could see him as a VP candidate.  He's have the credentials for that, and he'd be a Hispanic pick with some experience that would make one think he could handle the top job.

Maybe in the future (say, after succeeding Cardin to the Senate in 2024), but in 2020? I doubt it.

I feel like a DNC chair running for president would be seen as a conflict of interest somehow. Also, he'd have very little chance, since he's got fairly low name recognition, Bernie Bros inexplicably hate him now, and he's not moderate enough to run on electability.

And a run for Senate or Governor doesn't really make sense either.

This would be like Priebus running. Imagine that picture.

my hope was that if he lost he'd run for Maryland Governor in 2018, and use that as a future launching pad

my hope is that he would lose, run for MD-GOV or whatever in '18, lose, run for POTUS, lose Chafee style, become failure.
