Decent for a modern Liberal. Probably the best Liberal PM since St. Laurent. Hilarious guy, too.

Mixed. I like the federalism, and most of the economic policies. Could do without the greasy Gagliano et al.

Ehhh, it's more complicated than that

This is one of the most confusedly-written Wikipedia articles I've ever read. It discusses a bunch of things (some of which I was already aware of, others not) without a sense of where they all fit together. Any specific insight you wanted me to get out of it?

Mixed. Canada during the Chretien years seems like the fields of Elysium in comparison to the present situation.

The short version is that Martin and Chretien fought a lot. Chretien was on the left, Martin was on the right. It's debatable how much of the 90's-era Liberal budgets were Chretien's doing. I was happy with a lot fiscal decisions the Liberals made in the 90's, but I also wouldn't give Chretien a ton of credit for them personally.

Fair enough. I didn't know there was much policy involved in the Chrétien-Martin infighting. Still, a head of government is ultimately responsible for every policy that government makes.
