Wow,  the Republicans might actually have a 3rd moderate in their Senate caucus???   That's crazy, I thought only hardcore conservatives were allowed in nowadays.

Who's the second moderate?
Murkowski?

Huntsman is a lot more right wing than his moderate hero persona implies. He was actually a big Trump defender through everything until Pussygate. I don't blame him for withdrawing his support after that, and considering how loyal he was until that point, I'm fine with him replacing Hatch.

Well he's not a downright liberal or progressive, but for a Republican he's certainly in the center of "today's" field (10-15 years ago he'd be considered a conservative).

At the very least, he believes in man-made climate change and evolution, supports gay marriage, supports comprehensive immigration reform, and isn't a wacko-doodle warhawk about the military.

He probably would be considered a fiscal conservative though.

To be expected in Utah.

Besides Collins, Murkowski, Portman, Flake, Capito, Heller, etc., they're all solid conservatives. Roll Eyes

Huntsman would be the same as Hatch on economics (maybe a bit to his right), but much better on social issues, and far, far better on foreign policy. I wholeheartedly endorse Huntsman either in a Republican Party, or in an Independent run.

If he's the Republican candidate, then I'll vote Democrat as per my preference, but I won't be broken up when he wins by 30+ percent or more.

It seems like Utah Republicans are positioning themselves as the more moderate, reasonable Republicans. Although, I suppose Arizona's Jeff Flake isn't too far off from that either. It's probably a Mormon thing, which is a true testament to the good in their faith. Either way, Huntsman as Senator would be a good thing and could help check some of Trump's lunacy while providing a voice of sanity.

Unlike many conservatives I actually like Huntsman and would support him just to punish Hatch for refusing to retire if nothing else

Wish us Democrats could do the same with Dianne Feinstein in California, but if she wants to run I don't see a way to force her out.

I would root for Huntsman to beat Hatch! Could be way worse for Republicans.

She identified as pro-choice in the 2000's, supported stem cell research and opposed some abortion restrictions, but has moved to the right on that issue since 2010.

Well, some Arizona Mormons are sane, others are completely nuts. Like the author of the "papers please" law, Russell Pearce, was a virulent racist who palled around with Neo-Nazis like JT Ready. The LDS Church quietly supported his much less terrible challenger in the recall election (who was also a Mormon).

And one of the supporters of those idiot militia guys in Oregon (who were rural Nevadan Mormons themselves), was an Arizona sheriff, also a Mormon.

But Jeff Flake is more sane, yeah. He and Huntsman are pretty similar idelogically, and I think they'd get along.

She is certainly not a solid conservative. The ACU didn't rate her too highly, either.

Are Democrats who are liberal on everything but one token cultural issue not considered moderate?  Mark Pryor says hello.

Mark Pryor is moderate to conservative on guns, same sex marriage, abortion, and environmental issues.

Anyway, no matter how right-wing the Republican Party gets there will always be some that are more moderate than others, so "Are there moderate Republicans' is a kind of pointleess question.

Possibly the only Republican I could stand to support. Aside from Collins and Murkowski.

So, if we take the partisan point you were trying to make out of this sentence, that's what you actually said. Smiley
