I suppose it's more believable than Pizzagate. But the theorized motive of "cause panic" is a pretty lazy explanation. There's plenty of natural panic without an account only social media addicts will ever find and Putin knows that.

The deeper motive could be to discredit any actual information leaked by rogue staffers, similar to how jfern dismisses any CIA evidence of Russia involvement now with "LOLZ SO WHERE ARE THOSE IRAQI WMDS?!"

the best thing about the russian posession of internet trolling is, that russia's friends or general sceptics can always reject the notion the troll-factories of st petersburg are behind any specific move.......and russia's enemies or those wary of putin can always blame russian agents behind every specific move, without being able to confirm it.
