What is your overall interpretation of region rights vs. federal rights?  What do you believe your largest duties would be as Governor?

What is your overall interpretation of region rights vs. federal rights?  What do you believe your largest duties would be as Governor?

I believe there are specific rights allocated to the Federal government, and the Federal government had ought to excercise those rights as best they can.  The Regions too are granted specific rights, and should excercise those rights as best they can.  This division of powers is made fairly plain in the Constitution and I shall defer to the Supreme Court and its decisions on the subject.

My central duty as Governor will be to unify the region.  Not only will I try to unify people in this campaign, but I want to puch for a unified code of criminal and civil law, and unified tax system, and a unified budget.  My role will be to make the Pacific Region a true political unit.

What is your position on the Pacific's current laws regatrding the death penalty?

I support, at the very least, a moratorium on capital punishment.  There can be no doubt at this point that innocent people have been sentenced to die, although no excecutions of innocent people have actually gone forward in this country.  The death penalty is also applied in what can only be described as a racist fashion, with poor and minorities being overwhelmingly more likely to be executed than wealthy whites.

This application of the law violates the principle of equal protections espoused in section 2 of our Bill of Rights.  At the very least a moratorium is required to fully review the ways we can make the application of this penalty fairer.  The current situation is simply not acceptable to me.  In the end, it may be required of us to abolish capital punishment entirely, and evolving standards of decency should influence legislatures, and I think a growing consensus of citizens are beginning to question the wisdom and necessity of capital punihsment.

I would like to bump this thread given my announcement of a Lt. Governor running mate, True Independent.  We are now both available for questions, so don't be shy.

I'd like to announce that the John Ford for Governor campaign banners are out, supporters can put one in their signatures if they like.

Here are the two John Ford for Governor banners, one with white text and one with black text.

And here are the banners for the John Ford/True Independent team with True Independent's new screen name as well as his old one, True Democrat, all in both black and white text.

A special thanks to Gabu, who represents District 5 and all of the Pacific states so well, and who made each one of these wonderful banners.

I would like to bump this.  I have now delivered several campaign policy papers, and if anyone has any questions or concerns about these proposals, now is a good time to ask about them.

BIG QUESTION:  If FuturePrez were to be expelled after the elections and you were to win, who would you appoint Pacific Senator?

BIG QUESTION:  If FuturePrez were to be expelled after the elections and you were to win, who would you appoint Pacific Senator?

I would solicit several candidates and guage their interest in the job.  I won't be so bold as to name FuturePrez's replacementbefore he is expelled and before I am elected, but I would try to appoint someone who is respected and who is ideologically in the same ballpark as FuturePrez so as not to change the balance of the Senate too much as it was chosen by the people.

However, I have it on good sources that if FuturePrez is expelled, it will be before a new Governor takes office and that the new Senator will be someone we'll all be fairly happy with.
