Democrats should still try, try to take down Bevin, McConnell, Andy Barr and Thomas Massie. It can be done. If Republicans can still do well in VT, why can't Democrats do well in KY?

Dude, McConnell going down isn't happening. Small chance Bevin gets knocked off, but even this race is a strong lean R at very best. KY polling has a long history of errors. 2020 is presidential year and Trump will win the state with a vote share of at least 60%. There is zero chance more than 10% of this electorate vote Dem downballot. Let's be real here. Dems investing one nickel here would be a total waste of time, money and ressources.

You may be right, man. Bevin and Barr can go down.

Democrats should invest in a 50-state campaign like they did under Howard Dean.

In a healthy political climate, I agree. It would just not be wise in 2020 unless you have unlimited ressources.

Because the GOP is doing well in Vermont ?! Of course Vermont has a gun control RINO as governor but if you look at the electoral record of the GOP in federal races, they are not doing well. Dems can probably take back either in 2019 or in 2023 the KY governor mansion but the idea that they can win federal races outside of Louisville is stupid

McConnell is a RINO who blocks pro-life legislation, who pushes for pro-abortion nominees to the courts, and who rams through liberal-favored deals to increase the debt ceiling.
A globalist, McConnell is arguably the least effect Majority Leader in history, accomplishing remarkably little in two years of Republican control of both the White House and Congress under President Donald Trump.

Rocky Adkins might run against McConnell.

Seems to me that he or Matt Jones would be our best options. I have zero faith that they'd win, but there's no sense in not at least putting up a candidate who isn't a joke.

Amy McGrath is too nice. We need to go negative and Matt Jones/Rocky Adkins would do that.

Adkins I assume would have to moderate his position on abortion in order to access Democratic donors at the Senate level, especially with it being a likely driving issue for the base in 2020. He would certainly give McConnell a run for his money, and might be able to pull McGrath over the line if she goes for a rematch.

For better or for worse this is going to be a race national folks throw money at out of their loathing for McConnell. More realistic pick-up opportunities will invariably go comparatively underfunded, but there's nothing to be done about how people in power on the left feel about Mitch. We might as well put up the strongest candidate possible. Which, I think, is still Matt Jones.
