Huh? They are basically describing orthodox KKK beliefs.

This isn't news; Klansmen have been saying the thing about being white separatists (as opposed to white supremacists) for as long as I can remember.

Yeah, you can find Klansmen from 15 years ago saying that they don't consider themselves "supremacists," only "separatists." This article is reporting long-standing Klan doctrine like it's some shocking revelation.

There is no organized KKK. There are like 50 different KKK organizations with one to a couple dozen members each. Most of them say they are not White supremacists.

The KKK has long been a white supremacist organization, and has always been regarded as such.  When did they make this change from being white supremacists to being white 'separatists' (as if they seriously expect anyone to make that distinction)?  Was this just in the last few decades?

Again, there is no official, centralized KKK. It's just a thing they've been saying for a long time. David Duke actually left his Klan organization in the 80s because he wanted to be "pro-White/not anti-Black" so the shift probably started after then. But as I said, there was no centralized organization to make it official.

I mean, now that they are the governing party in the US, they, probably want, at least for the first few months, to appear slightly respectable.

Even though some Republicans are pro-KKK, most Republicans are not. Most do not support David Duke. Every Republican I know hates the Klan. Every Republican I know would vote for a Democrat over a Klansman. I don't like Duke or the Klan at all. I am a de facto libertarian Republican, an independent who mostly votes for more moderate Republicans and some Libertarian Party candidates.

Most Trump supporters probably hate the Klan and David Duke. Most people who voted for Trump because they want their country to be safe from radical Islamists and want to keep manufacturing jobs in America, and not intervene in Syria. Duke couldn't beat John Neely Kennedy or even come close to making the runoff.

You have to be an idiot to vote for Trump for either of the reasons you mention. And I will never assume stupidity, where evil explains behavior well.

Don't blame me, I voted for Gary Johnson. Are you a socialist who is to the left of the Democrats? Some Trump voters are just poorly informed.

I am a free-market neoliberal economist. But, of course, Democrats are now the only remaining conservative free-market option in the US.

Democrats are the only conservative party in the US. Libertarians are not a serious political force, nor am I a libertarian myself. Though, of course, Libertarians are vastly preferable to the current Republican party.
