I prefer Walkinshaw, but I'm honestly okay with whoever wins in this district, since they're both very progressive and while Jayapal might be a little embarrassing, I doubt she's an Alan Grayson type, that runs for statewide office or in tough districts and costs us an election.

My stance too. I also don't think she'd run statewide (mayyyybe when Murray retires? Statewide Dems rarely come from Seattle, though).

I think Kilmer, Heck, or DelBene are better guesses for future Senate candidates.

What has Jayapal done to earn so many people's ire here?

-She got Bernie Sanders endorsement, so now people believe she's a radical socialist when really she's just a progressive Democrat
-General Atlas sexism
-

That's pretty much it, yeah. The Clintonista backlash against true progressives amongst the "liberals" here has been very telling, and a constant reminder of why I jumped ship from the Dems a while ago.
Lyin' Steve and Wulfric are not "Clintonitas"

Steve was a big Clinton hack in the primaries.

Atlas really can't seem to make up its mind whether I'm an evil conservative Trumpbot (for example, the thread about me on AAD) or a feverish Clinton hack.

The truth is that I'm just a centrist Democrat who doesn't like bullying activists, irrational and emotional policy-making, misinformation, hostility, disingenuous accusations, or subversion of American principles.  I also really love competent, nitty-gritty policy-making, compromise, and attention to detail.  With those values it shouldn't be much surprise that I like Clinton and absolutely despise Sanders and Trump.  I actually think Warren is perfectly fine although she needs to stop mugging for the cameras.

Jayapal has a reputation in Seattle for being an ally of Kshama Sawant and heavily involved in the local activist scene (which is a festering hotbed of basically all the things I just said I didn't like).  I also happen to think that, like Tulsi, she's a political opportunist who latched herself to Bernie Sanders and the progressive movement to try to achieve undeserved stardom, and I'm annoyed that it worked (seriously, how many Atlas posts have suggested her for cabinet positions or even VP/president in the future, she's a low-impact state senator for Christ's sake).  The obviously absurd accusations she's leveling at Walkinshaw are just icing on the cake; frankly I think we all know that by calling him anti-woman and racist she's intentionally propagating an outright lie to A) try to take advantage of low-information voters who don't know much about either candidate but will assume, as they so often did with Hillary, that if so many people are so earnestly making the accusation there must be some truth to it, and B) try to make him toxic among progressive circles, e.g. if you support Walkinshaw then you must be anti-woman and racist too.

My core political philosophy isn't hard to grasp but Atlas has been trying for well over a year and not succeeded in getting it.  Probably because y'all keep trying to find some way to believe I'm a terrible person or a disingenuous hack or an amoral bigot.

By the way all the Bernie people love to (rightly) ridicule DWS for threatening to paint Obama as anti-semitic and anti-woman if he tried to push her out of the DNC in 2012, and then turn around and defend Jayapal when she's basically done the exact same thing to Walkinshaw.

They are conservative corporate stooge supporting hero worshiping Democrats who have no place  anymore in the new Dem party.

Newsflash: you don't get to decide who is and who isn't a Democrat.

So much dog sweat on the floor of this thread.  Somebody might slip and fall, especially when the non-cuckgressives' candidate wins.

Not all of us are hypocrites about this stuff Tongue

I voted for Sanders (and would do it again albeit not as enthusiastically) were the OH primary held today and was on record as not liking Jayapal months ago.  I'd been hoping that Walkinshaw would win even before McDermott officially announced his retirement (McDermott was good for a while, but he started losing it by the early 2000s) and Jayapal's smear campaign against has vindicated my concerns that she might be another Grayson in waiting (as opposed to Teachout, who I think seems like she could be a solid addition to Congress).  Another issue with Jayapal is that she'll be about as accomplished as Rubio if she wins which would be a shame b/c this is a seat where we have a chance to get a solid liberal (Walkinshaw) who actually might prove an effective legislator.

I highly endorse the Democrats purging all corporatist moderates from their party.

What does "as accomplished as Rubio" mean?  Rubio had 8 effective years in the Florida House before he moved up to the federal level.

It means Rubio hasn't done jack sh!t since getting elected to the Senate (I was referring to his time as the embodiment of a do-nothing absentee "legislator").
