Is it just a feeling or do we really have not much state polls this time? Compared to four years ago, there have been a lot more poll maps. I haven't seen much till now, and it is difficult to draw one since there are either no or outdated polls for several states. As an example, Electoral-vote.com had maps back in May and June 2008 and 2012; there's still none to this day.

There are several reasons for this, but it's mostly the fact that pollsters produced extremely crappy results lately and the media is not willing to pay the pollsters large sums for these crappy polls. Plus, telephone polls are getting much more expensive these days because nobody is picking up the phone anymore and the pollsters need to call 10-times the number of people than let's say 20 years ago ... Which leaves a couple Internet pollsters, such as YouGov.

And of course, it's very early. Pollsters and the media will save their money for post-Labor Day polls, when they actually matter.
