I say yes. Being the keynote speaker is how he started his career and it would be a good way for him to end it. Plus, the last two key note speakers for the DNC (Mark Warner and Julian Castro) sucked.

The keynote spot is an appropriate stage to thrust an up-and-comer into the national spotlight (see: 2004). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Other than the nominee, the sitting President is the last person who should be delivering the keynote address.

A rising star like Seth Moulton or Kamala Harris would probably be better.

Yep, why not? He’s the best president of the last half a century.

You only get a few opportunities per year to have the media really anoint a rising star.  It's basically your keynote address, your VP Pick, and your SOTU oppo response.  Why waste one on Obama when you could give it to e.g. Tom Perez and immediately make him a future contender for whatever he wants.  2008 was Mark Warner and 2012 was Julian Castro.

It's a terrible idea. This is an opportunity to put a fresh face in front of the country. When Obama speaks, everyone pays attention anyway. Give it to Gavin Newsom or something.

Give it to Keith Ellison, perfect nod to Sanders supporters and reinforcement against trump's rhetoric on Muslims.

Like others have said, it's an opportunity to bolster a newcomer. Obama's speech will get plenty of coverage anyway.

Not this time. He is not running for re-election.

I'm inclined to agree with you, for the following reasons:

(1) President Obama is the highest ranking Democrat currently in government;
(2) President Obama has shown himself to be able to string words together in a coherent fashion, and can deliver a very good speech;
(3) President Obama's popularity is currently on the uptick;
(4) I honestly can't think of a better alternative for keynote speaker (can you?)

No. POTUS gets his own speech separate from the keynote. Gavin Newson, Kamala Harris or Tammy Duckworth for me
