I've slept with more Liberals than I have Labor people but I don't think I could ever properly go out with one.

Yes, why not? My wife is also a registered Democrat, but I wouldn’t have a problem, if she were a Republican. I know a couple of GOPers, including women (like my neighbor). They're all nice people.

This.

I could have a Republican girlfriend, provided she's socially liberal enough.

I would have no problem marrying a Republican. Probably would be from the establishment wing just because of, as a previous poster stated what I could not, "the circles I run in."

I'm sure we would have disagreements, but would get past them. I do talk politics with friends, etc, but I know where the line is. Politics would never ruin my relationship with someone.

It is unlikely, though. Republicans are hard to come by in Chicago.

I would, if I sincerely loved that person.  I don't discriminate too much in the political views of people I associate with.

I think it also depends on the type of political views, too.

For instance, I could of course marry someone who thought open market exchanges were a preferable healthcare solution to single-payer, or someone who thought that Libya was justified, or has a different stance on abortion.

But I'm categorically not marrying some lady who thinks that gay people are sick, disgusting sinners - because that's just a very incompatible worldview.  I'm categorically not marrying someone who thinks black people are lazy, low-character whiners and that racism doesn't exist.  I'm categorically not marrying some ayn randian lady who thinks poor people deserve to suffer because they are weak.

Basically this

Yes. As long as they like debate and don't make character judgements based on political views.*

*Not that there aren't some views which are clearly reprehensible, such as thinking gay people should be killed or something. Just that if someone thinks that, there's probably something else going on in their life to make them think that.

Echoing what Madeleine said, it's very easy for me to imagine someone basically sharing my core values but interpreting or prioritizing them in a different way and coming up as a leftist, and I could certainly end up in a relationship with someone like that. There are some views that are clearly reprehensible but for the most part I don't travel in circles where such views would hold currency (excepting Israel/Palestine, but that's just because I've lived in places with heavy Middle Eastern populations).

So, I would not have a problem with it, absolutely.

Wow, Ljube, you should've told me you felt that way Tongue

Uh, in all seriousness, yeah, sure. There're plenty of Trump supporters in my family, and it's not hard to imagine someone who isn't as ridiculously into politics as I am, but with my basic views, who would just reflexively vote Republican and support Trump.
