Seems like it would limit him for the convention but obviously he needs to get there first...Some speculation is growing that he will...

Carly Fiorina is a terrible pick who probably wouldn't even help much in California. Darrell Issa, though, is a fascinating possibility: he could actually attract SoCal Republicans, you have a redemption story of basically a petty criminal turning into a successful multimillionare businessman and Congressman; you have a military career, which every other candidate in the race lacks; and you have a guy with a long, long record of attacking Hillary Clinton.

But Carly, while she has been successful attacking trump, has a lot of holes in her business career where she can be attacked, and she's basically just as unlikable as Cruz; she also lost the only election she ever fought.

The other VP candidate who could really turn the race around for Cruz, of course, is John Kasich. But Kasich is still counting on being the presidential nominee at a convention.

Issa would be such a risky pick, especially since the criminal behavior is just the stuff we know about. I suspect he's done worse.

But yes, I agree with Carly being a horrifying choice.

True, but if we're coming up on California and Cruz needs some sort of Hail Mary to win it and uses this technique, who's the best choice? The only other California Republican politicians I can think of that are VP-able are Tom McClintock and David Valadao, and both of them are from the wrong part of the state.

Mimi Walters, with her extensive history of fighting against eminent domain and Orange County political base, might've been perfect if she'd been in Congress for more than a single term. Actually, if there really is more out there on Issa, Walters might be a better strike-lightning pick. Does invite comparisons with Palin, though.

If Joaquin Castro is an option for VP, I suppose Kevin Faulconer also deserves mention here.

EDIT: Jerry Sanders is a perfect choice, and would be even if Cruz wasn't seeking a Californian

If he got Marco Rubio, he'd for sure lock up the nomination. But something tells me, Rubio would rather be Trump's VP

Why would somebody who lost his home state by 19 points be such a coveted asset?

Naming a VP is actually a pretty good idea as a last ditch effort before the final primaries. I think Cruz still has a good enough chance at the nom that he should hold off, but I don't think it's completely implausible that Cruz would name a VP in late May if he needs a high-risk, high-reward game changer.

No, because he won't be the nominee. It will be TRUMP.

Not for the general. To lock up the nomination.

I think this factoid has already gone down the memory hole.

You sure about that?  Every time I switch on the TV and hear Trump speak, he mentions that he won Florida in a landslide.  There's no question he would hammer Cruz for that if he were to choose Rubio as his VP.
