Perhaps one of us is secretly Bill Scher. Weird how this comes out right after some on here were talking about Franken as the perfect VP.

1. Prevent Bernie Sanders’ energized left-wing youth from snubbing Clinton and flocking to the Green Party;

Al Franken is not particularly left-wing and has described himself as DLC Democrat and a Clintonista in the past. Why would he attract left-wing voters? Furthermore, why would a shill for the entertainment industry, who backs putting people into jail for piracy, attract the youth vote?

2. Protect the Rust Belt from Trump’s blustery charms; and
3. Navigate an unprecedented media circus dominated by Trump’s barrage of taunts.

These are basically the same reason. "Al Franken can be funny to counter Trump being funny" The problem with that is 1) Al Franken's comedy was never actually that funny 2) He has actively avoided doing or saying anything comical since he first announced he was running for Senator. His entire Senate career is actually build on being unexpectedly, relentlessly serious.

It was Kingpoleon. If you name literally every Democratic official for the last 40 years as the perfect VP, eventually someone serious is bound to agree with you about one of them.

That's part of the reason why I posted it.  I'm not sure if Franken would be my first choice.  But this article suggests the buzz for this idea is more widespread than we may have originally thought.

Frankly, if we need someone to protect the Rust Belt from Trump, Sherrod Brown would be better, even with the problem of allowing Kasich to appoint a replacement if Brown actually becomes VP.

He'd make the VP debate interesting for sure.

I don't see where he brings anything special to the ticket, and there's always the chance a Republican could win the special election to replace him. Democratic chances of retaking the Senate aren't so secure that they can afford to put any Senator in the veep spot unless there is a very strong case to be made.
