Wherever he is Charles Darwin is smiling warmly.

How much evidence does the average American need to finally realize there is something very wrong with our bizarre gun culture?

There is nothing wrong with 'gun culture'. There is, however, a serious problem with gun owners not practicing gun safety.

I didn't say "gun culture".  I said, "our bizarre gun culture".  There are other sane nonbizarre gun cultures out there.  You know the ones where you have to register your gun and pass a rigorous screening process to buy only a limited subset of guns.

And this has nothing to do with "gun safety".  This has nothing to do with a simple check list of dos and don'ts.  It's like a company that is rife with corruption, sexism, malfeasance, etc.  The problem isn't a short list of rules that need to be followed it is the culture of the company.  We see this all the time with public companies.  They change management and the new CEO comes in and says, we are going to change the "culture".  Sometimes the system is so shot to hell you just have to acknowledge it and start over.

Lol.

Well luckily she wasn't shot in the back of the head.  Should have posted more info.  She was shot in the back but is in stable condition at the hospital.  She spoke with police officers who found her shot on the side of the road.

We have a sick and twisted obsession with guns in this country.

Gun culture is in our blood. That can't be stopped. However, there is nothing wrong with teaching safety. All gun control does is make it harder for law abiding citizens to get protection. Just look at the fact that most of the violent crime in the country is concentrated in areas with lots of it. You never see a mass shooting in Vermont or Maine.

Teach gun safety, don't ban it. Look what happened with marijuana and other drugs we banned it and people still buy/use it. Teach the consequences but the government should never infringe on someone's rights whether it's to smoke pot or own a firearm.

The only issue here is that she failed to secure the gun safely.
Thankfully she is okay and hopefully she learns to not leave guns around carelessly in the future.

Okay, I'm looking at it. I am looking at that fact. What am I supposed to see, exactly? Besides the perfectly logical explanation for that correlation, obviously. What exactly is your argument here?

Politics aside, I feel very bad for any child who grows up knowing they accidentally killed/maimed one of their family members.

She kind of had it coming. But let's not forget, this is about gun safety, not 'gun culture'.

I'm saying that, in general, we should make it easier for law abiding citizens to obtain weapons. Places like Vermont have it down to a science. In this case, we also need to teach safety. And I'm not sure if you deliberately misread me, but I meant areas with lots of gun control have high crime rates because people can't guard themselves.

Oh, I understood you perfectly, and your argument requires gargantuan logical leaps that aren't supported by any facts. Gun control legislation gets passed in areas with high gun crime rights because of the high crime rates. Arguing that the causation is the other way around is absurd.
