I'm sorry if there is a thread on this already but i can't seem to find it.

I believe Trump will win the nomination now, i'll begin with that.

BUT

Lets for argument purposes say come the convention none of the candidates have enough delegates to win the nomination, how does the process exactly work?

Lets say Trump has the most followed by Cruz and than Rubio but none of them are within real striking distance of the number needed. I heard they go into a back room and make a deal? Who is in that room and who decides who the candidate will be? Lets say they get in a room and everyone wants a mainstream nominee but Trump and Cruz refuse to give in and state they have the most delegates and want to be the nominee. Period.

What happens if they can't come to an agreement. For someone like Cruz im sure he could be offered something that may entice him to step aside but for someone like Trump who is now 70 and has all the money he could ever want, what kind of deal could he possibly be offered that would make him step aside? This isn't a career politician so a cabinet spot or VP spot im sure has no interest to him or anything else besides the highest office in the land.

Couldn't this become very tricky since Trump would probably be involved and hes never been in politics, so anything besides the nomination i can't see appealing to him.

Is there a vote between whoevers in the room backstage or what?

If it's Trump, Cruz, and Rubio, like you said, the only one I can see accepting a "deal" to drop out is Rubio. I don't see Cruz having any interest in a cabinet position, nor would I say the same of Trump.

I can't see Rubio wanting to work in a Trump cabinet, so I'd guess that unless someone else is pulling the strings, he'd endorse Cruz if anyone and become a part of the Cruz administration.

If Rubio even belongs in that group at all, of course.

If Trump had only 40% and they reached some deal with Rubio and Cruz, they could just defeat Trump 60-40 that way, even if he refused to drop out.
