This article in the Detroit News said car thefts are up. The article also said; "It takes at least three offenses before a defendant gets even jail time, not prison."
Any Questions?

I'm not suprised, although It doesn't seem  that many get stolen out here. i didn't know we had the high car insurance in the country.  Thety should throw you in jail for at least 5 years or stealing just one car and double it for every following car theft  (second offence 10 years, third 20 years and so on).  That may seem harsh but i'm pissed because this is most likely one of the reasons I pay so much in car insurance.

I think the main problem is in Detroit proper and not the surrounding suburbs. But the fact that car thieves are not punished until the third offense illustrates a breakdown in the justice system. Thats like a license to steal two cars.

The justice system is one of the fundamental reasons for government to exist. When the justice becomes non-functional then society begins to break down.

Detroit is beyond repair. It should be blown off the face of the Earth.

Detroit reached its relative peak around 1930.

This is caused by poverty, which is of course increasing in Detroit, in Michigan, and in the US overall.

You're telling me that in Detriot 2 car thefts doesn't send you to jail, while in CA after you've served all your time for all prior convictions, stealing a slice of pizza gets you 25 years? There's definitely something wrong with this.

The problem is the lack of punishment in Detroit.

No, the problem is poverty.

No, the problem is poverty.

Hopefully those poor deprived peckerwoods will steal your car.

I'm not a big fan of Rudolf Guiliani but his zero tolerance plan reduced crime in New York dramatically. That worked much better than the dumb-ass welfare state plans such as you propose.
