Is it worth noting that Rafael Cruz has definitely peddled Obama birthed conspiracy theories.

When I search for Cruz birther comments on Obama, I fail to find anything besides this fake meme and articles on it. I am quite curious, so if you can, please link me to an actual Cruz quote.

Pretty sure CapoteMonster is referring to Ted Cruz's father Rafael B. Cruz, who has said Obama should be sent "back to Kenya": http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/10/31/ted-cruzs-father-in-2012-send-obama-back-to-kenya/?hpt=hp_t3
He actually said that he should be sent back to Chicago, and then suggested he would like to send him back to Kenya or Indonesia.

At this point Santourum and Huckabee are just pawns of TRUMP. Great news!

Trump is getting the response he wanted and Cruze is falling, but he has to be careful not to win the battle and lose the war.  If Cruz goes into freefall, Trump almost surely wins Iowa, but it could mean a late Rubio surge.  Trump 23/Rubio 20 in Iowa is almost worse for him than Cruz 28/Trump 25, because it sets up a two-way race in NH and Northern states where Cruz has nothing on Trump.  Trump needs to keep Kasich and Bush's hopes alive into NH.  The ideal for him would narrowly winning IA, then romping in NH with Kasich in 2nd.

Much more likely that a Huckabee/Santorum/Carson rises to replace Cruz in Iowa than Rubio.

If this actually manages to crater Cruz's chances in Iowa, I will have to stop even pretending that there's any sanity left in the Republican Party.

No federal judge will ever rule that Cruz is ineligible. However, it really does look like this will be a serious "problem" for Cruz because it appeals to the dumbest, most racist Republican primary voters that Trump and Cruz are fighting over.

And now I'm never going to be able to even tell, thanks to the loans he didn't report to the FEC! Grr.

This well written and easy to read piece should put to bed all of the birther nonsense about Cruz, except for those who don't care about the merits of an issue, other than it's ability to be used as a political weapon.

Oh who is the author? Glad you asked:

Akhil Reed Amar is a professor of constitutional law at Yale University and the author of "The Law of the Land: A Grand Tour of Our Constitutional Republic."

Yes, I know, Tribe is Harvard, but Tribe was trolling Cruz, saying hey, if you want to be a Constitutional textual literalist, like you claim to be Cruz, then maybe you can't be POTUS. You're hoisted on your own petard! Ha, ha. Well actually even that Tribe sally is a fail, as the Yale Law School professor sets forth, word by word, law by law. Tribe by the way, really sucked in his oral arguments in Bush v Gore, and Gore had to fire the guy, and parachute in David Boies. As Trump would say - you're fired! Tongue

Not me Torie. It's the Republican base that will find it amusing.

Ann Coulter posted an interesting article.  She believes Cruz to be ineligible.  She asks, if Cruz is eligible to be president, then what was the big deal over whether Barack Obama was born in Kenya or not?  He too had a mother who was a U.S. citizen.

Well technically that argument doesn't translate directly to Obama's situation since his mother didn't meet the residency years requirement.

Well... she's consistent, if not factually incorrect about Obama being born in Kenya.

That is a very good question. There is an answer though. US law requires that you have lived in the US for 5 years after the age of 14 in order for your child born abroad to automatically be a US citizen. Obama was born when her mother was 18, so if Obama had been born in Kenya, the 5 year requirement would not have been met. Cruz's mother met the 5 year requirement. I suspect Coulter knows all of this, and is just trolling - sort of like Tribe has been doing.
