Neutral. Never bought a lottery ticket myself, but don't really have anything against them.

An opportunity to win Teddy mucho de moolah Grin

TBH, although sometimes it doesn't all get there, education can use all the funding it can get.

I'm really surprised you're neutral on this.

A lot of liberals tend to dislike the lottery because they see them as a tax on the working-class. They see the lottery as a way the government takes advantage of the working-class.

Most of the people who hate lotteries tend to be upper-class, and they typically hate lotteries for the wrong reasons (mainly classism). Many look down upon lottery ticket buyers. I'm a financially well-off man myself, and I hold neutral views on the lottery. It has its ups and downs.

People also tend to forget the social aspect. Most buyers know that they aren't going to win, but they still buy tickets just for fun.  There are also many financially well-off lottery ticket buyers.

I support them, as while they call it a tax on the poor, nobody forces you to buy a ticket. I do play the lottery, but not to excess, and if I lived in a state that didn't have a lottery, I would miss it. I personally play the state game, affectionally called Classic Lotto 47 here in Michigan, as the odds are astronomically better at winning. On the in-state only game, the odds are 1 in 10,737,573 instead of 1 in 292,201,338 for Powerball or 1 in 258,890,850 for Mega Millions.

For those of you with issues, would you be so against the lottery if you won?  What has to happen for you to support a program other than the government spreading misery equally?

Atrocious. I am absolutely disgusted by the amount of money that has left my household over the years for some absurd dream tbh. And I say that as someone who loves gambling, but there has to be some sort of advantage in your pocket.

My state actually doesn't have a lottery; if we want the lottery we just head north to Idaho or west to Nevada.

I'm pretty neutral on it, I don't care if it comes here either way. Not opposed or for, though extra revenue and keeping the lottery money in Utah would be nice.

Interestingly, a majority of Utahns supported a lottery in the 80s, but a lottery was constitutionally banned due to the state constitution, and the state legislators weren't willing to put changing the state constitution in that way on the ballot (and also the LDS Church considered it a moral issue, and spoke against the lottery).
