I don't think his actions would have been successful (frankly, they would have been detrimental), but his motivations alone make him a FF.

Okay, to be serious for a second instead of knee-jerky, if I'd been around in the time of Mr. John Brown, I might've felt a pang of sympathy for his motivations, but, like with most activists today, I would regard him as a threat to my way of life (assuming he wasn't amusing). Obviously he was a terrorist, and I find most activists annoying. Nevertheless, from a moral perspective, he obviously strove for good things, and he likely caused unnecessary bloodshed. Nevertheless, slavery was an obvious oppressive evil that deserved whatever violence it wrought.

Not sure what anyone expected the results to be, but I found it a tad surprising that more Democrats said he was a "terrorist" than Republicans.

Anyway, as others have said, certainly both.  Slavery was so inexcusable and inhumane that I'm willing to give a pass to anyone who tried to stop it in just about any way imaginable.  FF.

Misguided, but had the right thing at heart.
