The Republican Party nominated Governor Hughes for president and Elihu Root as his vp. He is campaigning on being a pragmatist who will keep most of teddy agenda but at the same time would not expand the government too much. He believes that the government should more forcefully enforce the sherman antitrust act, and regulate consumer and worker safety but he wants to make sure that we dont pass laws what hurt honest business. He also supports passing laws regulating child labor to protect our children .   Hughes supports the Philippine American war and opposes withdrawing from the Philippines and other countries we acquired from the Spanish at end of that war with Spain.


The Democratic Party nominated Governor Joseph Folk for president and Governor  John Burke as VP. They are running on a very progressive platform of wanting to pass stricter anti trust laws, support enacting strict child labor regulations, make unions stronger,support 8 hour work day, would support enacting an income tax , and supports breaking up the political machines in the country. On foreign policy they oppose the war in the Philippines and believes we should give the Philippines independence but at the same time keep a military base there to protect it against European or Japanese aggression .

 If this margin holds us not only will democrats win the white house they will easily take the house and could flip up to 14 to 15 senate seats.

Democrats have also gained 36 seats in the house giving them a majority in the house of 203-188 and have also gained 9 seats in the Senate which means the Republicans will still control the senate 52-40.
