In regards to the common parallel of the rise of the second Republic of Italy and the notorious media magnate that came to personify Italy in the 90's-00's? If you catch my drift...

But it just seems like a stretch that a Berlusconi could be as politically successful in a country like the U.S. compared to Italy. However, that isn't to say American democracy won't look like Italy in the not to distant future...

Well I was more implying the role of Berlusconi in safely controlling widespread anger towards the "establishment" after Tagentopoli toppled all five mainstream parties. To avoid the fury coalescing around the officially no longer Communist (but with string Eurocommunist roots) Party, the establishment managed to coalasce against the brash businessman Silvio Berlusconi, who promised to fight the  corruption in the old system while being a strong bulwark against the commits. Crucially though, he made no effort to follow through with the investigations because although the parties and faces had changed, he was an establishment man in maverick clothing
