A poem by my partner Dan inspired by this vista:
Stephen Driving
Coming back from the oldest house in the Hudson River Valley With its Dutch-Mahican sentences and Selby reciting with closed eyes
We took a turn, which dipped into a pond filled with pink flowering lotus A small valley of lotus and the pond gone, an Emerald City of pink lotus
Two old men, a hot August afternoon, like youth in our sling swinging Swinging on a bough, a valley of pink lotus, and then away
The weeds will outlast us, but not this not that
