Will their ballot access rules remain sufficiently onerous that half the candidates won't make it on the ballot, like in 2012?

First, the establishment abandons Cuccinelli, he loses by 2 points despite being outspent by a machine.  Now, they've abandoned the caucus which benefited conservative candidates.  GOP can't hide it's disdain for it's own voters.

Why even have a primary? The goal of the establishment is for Jeb to be nominated -- and then that's it. Then throw the election.

We'll probably get to choose between Rand Paul and whoever the most organized/successful establishment candidate is.

Sounds ominously like 2012....

The Republican Convention cost repubs the seat back in 2013. Sarvis got 6.5% in protest of the mediocre McAullife and horrendous Kook-inelli. If a primary had occured, Bill Bolling would've had a huge shot and with the nomination would've have crushed McAullife by double digits.

I'd really disagree with you. Cuccinelli really did  *significantly* better than the polls said he would.  He was essentially abandoned by the RGA weeks before the election.

Think about it. Why would the RGA send more money to Christie (who won in a landslide) vs Cuccinelli who was in a tight race, unless they wanted him to lose.
The establishment wanted Cuccinelli to lose because they couldn't bare someone winning on cultural conservative convictions.

Yes, Bolling would have won. But that's because the establishment wouldn't have starved him for funds in the 11th hour like they did to Ken.

It really shows contempt for voters when you decide to hold an exclusive convention full of activists instead of opening up the process for the wider state party.
