For reference, here are the 2011 Results:

(Ron) Paul: 41%
Huntsman: 25%
Bachmann: 13%
Cain: 7%
Romney: 5%
Gingrich: 5%
Santorum: 2%
Pawlenty: 1%
(Gary) Johnson: 1%
(Buddy) Roemer: 1%
(Thaddeus) McCotter: <1%

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Leadership_Conference#Straw_poll_2

As you can see, it was not very predictive of who would win the nomination or even who the top contenders would be. Only 1 of the candidates who placed in the top 4 placed 4th or better in the nomination race.

So,

Everson ahead of Graham at an event with "Southern" in the name? What?

Everson is from Mississippi. That's as southern as it gets.

But still, lol.

(I know he's just registered there for campaign purposes. He's a Yankee at heart.)

Everson actually spoke at this event (as did about 60% of the rest of the field), so this was the rare straw poll in which the people voting actually knew who he was.

I'm surprised Everson didn't do better. They loved Huntsman last time 'round; I think he got second.

John Cox won a Republican straw poll in 2008. Straw polls are junk.

It least the poll seems consistent in choosing who loses, so that counts for something.

Well, Huntsman actually had a serious job for a while and didn't cheat on his wife.

To be fair, if anyone was married to Jon Huntsman's wife they wouldn't be cheating. Tongue

No one thinks Carson is going to be the nominee.  No one thinks Carson is going to be on the ticket.  What's in it for Ben?
