Should the poor and homeless be allowed to sell their organs to the rich in exchange for a few thousand dollars to pay for temporary food and rent? It might be a good idea and we can cut welfare costs.

Only if we can remove your organs with no compensation, first.

This could provide help for the needy. Obviously when it comes to real help Obama and his allies put a stop to it until they can benefit from it politically.

Yes, of course. And it isn't just rich people who would buy them. Iran is one of the few countries where this is legal and waiting lists for kidney transplants are almost non-existent. This could save thousands of lives while reducing black market organ trafficking and helping people earn money. It's a win-win.

Indeed.  We certainly shouldn't do it to "cut welfare costs".

Ok it might not just be the rich who would benefit, but let's be honest. How would poor and homeless people ever be able to afford organs? In all likelihood they'd be the ones supplying us in exchange for food and housing being paid for up to a certain sum of money. The medical field may also benefit from the profits that would follow. This could be a win-win for everyone like you said above. Sorry I forgot your name.

Ick.  'Cannibalize yourself for scraps and a tarp'

You're disgusting.

My proposal:  give a $1,000,000 deduction for donating an organ.  Raise the estate tax to cover the revenue drop Wink

^I honestly don't get that. It's already legal to sell one's bodily fluids, why not organs? Do people not own their own bodies?

Ownership is statist.

People owning their own bodies = statist. I don't even know how to respond to that.

That was intended to be a joke. Evidently, I was not successful.

Not that it shouldn't be legal to do what you want with your own body, but the OP (who is an obvious troll) looks at it as a measure to "cut welfare costs." So rather than offering assistance to working class low-income people to help them afford rent/food, his vision is to effectively force them to sell their f***ing organs to the rich in exchange for a few months rent or whatever. Talk about not having control over your own body...

People try to read the question again, it's obvious anti-capitalist satire.

Quote

He goes out of the way to make the question sound as disgusting and evil as possible. In the first two bolded he set up victims against the elite. In the 3rd and 4th bolded part he make it clear that this is exploiting of the worst off by the elite.

So unless Replicator is incredible bad at choosing his words, this is clear satire.

We used to have a spammer who advertised Yamaha products. I thought from the thread title maybe he had returned.

If you say "sell your organs for cash" I'm not comfortable with that. But if you say "A compensated organ donor" that gives it a different spin.  Yes, that should probably be legal if it saves lives and the compensation is adequate.   Donors should have some sort of assurance of full coverage for any possible medical costs associated with the loss of their organ.  If the supply reaches demand then the donor will have an excellent chance of having an organ available for themselves too if they ever need it.

As long as it's done in a licensed and legit facility, of course. To suggest otherwise implies that the organs in question belong to the state rather than to a person. It isn't like a healthy poor person is going to offer up his heart for sale and then take his wife out to dinner. This is about what happens during death.

I thought we were speaking of things like kidneys.
