Alsby, West Virginia

My fellow citizens, because of the standoff between the federal government and the South East we stand on the brink of a catastrophic civil war, an outcome I would hope no one but a few hotheads want.
This nation is not used to war. It has not felt it's bitter lash across it's face in living memory. I hope it never does again.
And certainly not over an issue which, in the grand scheme of things, is a side issue. People should not die over gay marriage. To expect people to lay down their lives because of a difference of opinion over whether two people can get married or not is nothing if not irresponsible.

But it seems to me, sitting in my rocking chair in a remote little town surrounded by forests, that that is about to happen.

Now maybe I'm wrong. Maybe all the news hasn't filtered through to us here. Or maybe both sides will come to an agreement.

But that does not look at all likely to me.

So I've decided to make an offer to both sides; if you want, I'll mediate the dispute towards a peaceful solution. I am impartial over this; I don't care about gay marriage. It's a non-issue to me. I've not taken sides in this dispute. But I do care about people's lives.

I hope, unless a peaceful and speedy resolution is reached soon, that both sides take up my offer.

Thank you and may God bless us all.

is this an issue concocted by States Rights, or do all of the Southern region's inhabitants feel this way?

Some of them do, though there are number of dissenters, and a few who are simply keeping their heads down.

Doesn't the southeast realise it will be absolutely decimated if there is a civil war? It'd be over in two weeks, absolute maximum. Add the dissidents within the regio itself, and an insurgency wouldn't be teribly effective, at least not in gaining independence or whatever it is they want.
