Could it be that Ron Paul's two modern campaigns were only to land the groundwork for Rand to take over for him? Ron never seemed like he actually wanted to win. Only to spread a message and plant libertarian seeds. Rand actually seems like he wants to win.

A lot of us thought Rand only ran for office with the intention of eventually running for president.
Of course, and there is nothing wrong with that, seeing as the message is more important than the messenger.

Their politics aren't as similar as all that. I think they very much had their own agendas and both wanted to win, but Ron is a firebrand absolutist who wasn't willing to make the compromises he needed to be a contender. Rand is a smart politician who exists slightly more in the mainstream of the GOP. I don't think he'll be the nominee, but he'll make a decent run.

I doubt Ron saw his son as a potential President in 2007/2008, although he did likely see his goal as getting more attention for his beliefs and maybe paving the way for someone else.

In 2012, laying a groundwork for Rand was likely a main goal.

Most Ron Paul supporters are moving away from Rand, because he's just another establishment warhawk

Sounds like you all are making Rand out to be some sort of messiah of libertarianism even though he is morphing himself into another establishment Republican (if he wasn't already one).

He may not be the best libertarian, but he still could do some good otherwise
