Before Update I'd never even really heard of jobs like this.  I knew companies obviously had people to handle phone calls and whatnot but I'd assumed that it was part of a larger customer service scheme, rather than these big rooms with rows of people answering phone calls.  (Anti-big business poli sci major... I just never cared to look into how a corporate office runs) Truly, I was baffled when Bushie would constantly describe these call center jobs and couldn't understand why they were the only places he ever seemed to end up.

Well, I've been in the market for a new job and had recently went to a presentation on my old college campus from a company that had hired a lot of people in my circle of a friends.  Most of them said they like their jobs, this company was on Fortune's Top 100 Companies To Work For, so I went on the website and applied to around 11 jobs to which I was qualified.  Three of these positions were that of "Client Administrator" in Mt. Laurel, NJ.  The listing described it as very customer service oriented, and being on the phone was described as "part" of the job.  I was given a phone interview and brought in for an in-person.  I sit down with their recruiters (I guess) and as they start describing the job to me, they utter this sentence:

"Now, we don't like to call it a "call center", but rather a "contact center".

What?!  A call center job?!  Now without Update I might have been clueless as to what they were describing.  However, armed with my knowledge, I turned my attention towards the other applications I had put in and started asking them about THOSE positions.  Naturally, and thankfully, I was not hired as a "client administrator" to work in their call center.

Since then I've scored three interviews and prospects for jobs in government and philanthropy that are much more related to my degree and experience (as well as this same company considering me for positions more suited to my skill set), but I just thought this was a hilarious Atlas/Update story where this ridiculous forum prevented me from sitting in front of screen with a headset on doing soul-crushing work.  And to that I say...

Thank you, Atlas!
Thank you, Update!
(And yes) Thank you, Bushie!

Dare I say that Bushie is a Christ-like figure in all this? Is he "dying for our sins" and "descending into Hell" so that we may live? Praise be to Update!

Don't you know?  Bushie took a call center job for all of our sins!

Can I get AN AMEN, ATLAS FORUM?

PRAISE UPDATE, for through it all things are possible.

Did you ask them if there would be any "sidejacking" opportunities if you were hired?

No.  I was too bewildered with how My Savior had saved me from sidejacking to ask about it.

So, serious question -- if you don't have anything by the time your Navy pay runs out, will you do what you've long urged Bushie to do: simply take any job to pay the bills?

No need to wait two months! Get a pizza job today and get paid twice over the next two months. Extra cash is very handy.
